Planning a wedding is expensive... Sometimes that doesn't leave you with a lot of money for fancy Valentine's Day celebrations. Have some ideas on a way to spend the day or evening with the love of your life, without blowing the budget!
Make desserts for each other:
What can be more romantic that chocolate covered strawberries? You can make those yourself for way less than buying them from your local grocery store, plus it's way more fun to laugh and do it together. What about if you bake a batch of sugar cookies, use heart shape cookie cutters and write secret messages to each other with icing? For extra points, make pizzas for each other and eat your fully homemade meal in candlelight!
Library Scavenger Hunt:
Think back to some of your favorite books growing up; it can be anything from The Cat in the Hat to Nancy Drew. Maybe even some comic books if that was what you were into. Go to your local library and see how many of these books you can find! Take turns reading to each other. An alternative would be to find books of poetry or short stories to take turns reading!
Arcade:
Most arcade games are $0.25-0.50 each; with $10 in quarters you could do some serious gamege together! Movie Theaters, bowling allies, and putt-putt centers are great places to start your search for new and classic arcade games!
Netflix and Chill...ish:
Ok, start by not actually turning on Netflix. Netflix can take you from "I'll just watch one episode" to fifteen episodes later in what feels like five minutes. Instead, make mini movies for each other! There are plenty of apps you can download on your phones to make short films either together or apart to watch when you're together.
Treasure Hunt:
You could be the treasure, or dinner, their gift, it could be anything really. This could be as in depth or as simple as you feel like putting the work into. You could create a map to follow, or you could just hide clues around the house. You could make it an epic trek around town, or just around the house. This could last hours or just a few minutes. Clues could rhyme, be a puzzle, a word problem, a story or memory, or literally just tell them where to go.
Youtube Date Night:
This is Netflix and chill for the active couple. Youtube has... everything. Literally everything. Learn a magic trick, cooking tutorials, a new dance, karaoke love songs to each other, Dating Divas even created a Youtube Scavenger Hunt!
February can be crisp, but if the weather isn't too cold try the first picnic of the year! National Parks, State Parks, even County Parks are beautiful this time of year. If it's cold, take a van or SUV so you can picnic in the trunk, out of the wind, and enjoy the views, or if it's warmer find a picnic table! There's likely to not be many people around- and the best part- the bugs aren't out yet!
DIY Wine and Canvas:
A bottle of your favorite wine, two blank canvases (they really aren't overly expensive), and a bunch of different paint colors (you can get acrylic paint for $1 or less at Walmart! Better yet, most crafty people have some hiding in a closet somewhere.), and Bob Ross on Netflix. Plus, there's no teacher to judge you if you suck!
Thrift Shop:
There are different thrift shops you could choose from: Goodwill, Salvation Army, any number of $1 stores. Give each person a budget (I suggest <$5 each) and an amount of time (10-20 minutes) and find the most heartfelt gift you can for your significant other. It's a thrift shop, so expectations won't be too high, and it could be good for a laugh!
Puzzling:
Find a puzzle at a cheapo store (maybe the $1 store from the previous idea?) and some Elmer's glue. Choose one that's slightly daunting, but not something you'll regret starting or cause an argument. I suggest 300-500 pieces. It's more of a team building exercise than falling backwards onto each other ever would be! Plus, if you finish it, you have artwork, and proof of your compatibility!
Dog Walking:
Most animal shelters or SPCA's are always looking for volunteers to walk and play with homeless puppies! What could possibly be more fun, easy, and fulfilling than making a dog feel loved?
