How To Be A Perfect Bridesmaid

By On 2:36 PM

Woman all over the world have waited their whole lives to be asked the special question.... "Will you be my bridesmaid?"

The answer to this question seems easy enough, right? "Yes".  It's such a simple word to say. But what happens after that? What happens when you've officially become a member of the wedding party? That's a bit more complicated. Luckily, you are currently reading the blog that will help you be the BEST bridesmaid of all time!

1. Say "Yes" after you say "Yes":  One of the most important things about being a bridesmaid is saying "yes" after you've said "yes".  A wedding is the most important day of most women's lives, and she has asked YOU to be a part of her's!  That means that she trusts you to help her make this day the best it can be. The best way to do that, is to say "yes" as much as possible. If she asks you to do something, you say yes. If she asks if you like her decorations, you say yes. If she asks you if you like the cake she picked out, you say yes. The day will not be the best it can be if the bride doesn't like it. So even if you think her flowers clash with the linens, or the cake is too tall, if she likes it, tell her you like it too.

2. Remember this day is not about you. Being a bridesmaid is a wonderful honor. It means that this human being loves you so much she wants you to be a part of HER day! And that's what you have to remember. This. is. HER. day. If she asks for your opinion, don't base your answers on what you like. Instead, look at them from the bride's point of view and give her the answer you think will make her the happiest. As a bridesmaid, your opinion is the bride's opinion.

3. Make sure she understands the day is about her. Brides are under pressure from everyone and everything. Will Grandma like the ceremony? Will Dad like the suit? Should we invite Great-Aunt Susan she's only met once? These are just some of the stresses that come with a wedding, and the best thing you can do is remind the bride who's opinions really matter. Do the bride and groom like the ceremony? Then that's the ceremony. Do the bride and groom like the suits? Then those are the suits. Do the bride and groom want Great-Aunt Susan there? Then Great-Aunt Susan stays home. The idea that a bride has to make everyone happy is a fallacy. This day is not about Grandma, Dad, or Great-Aunt Susan. It's about the bride and the groom, and they need reminded of this constantly.

4. Do not complain. Obviously, there are limits to what a bride should ask her bridal party to do. Should a bride ask all of her bridesmaids to be a size 8 by her wedding day? Probably not. Should a bride ask her bridesmaids to help with set up? Absolutely. I'm going to say it again because I cannot stress this enough. This is HER day. Do you want her to look back on her wedding day and think about how much work she had to do because no one helped her? Of course not! Do you want her to look back on her wedding day and think about how much her bridesmaids complained about the amount of work they had to do? Of course not! A bridesmaid's #1 job is to make the day as enjoyable and easy as possible for the bride.

5. Do NOT tell her if problems occur the day of her wedding! Brides are stressed and freaked out enough. If there is a problem with the cake, or decorations, or tuxes, do not tell the bride unless it's A) Unfixable,  B) Already fixed, or  C) Don't tell her at all. This might not sound like the best advice, but trust me, it's VERY important. She will stress about it all day and all night, and it will likely not even be a big problem. If there isn't a wedding coordinator there, take care of the problem yourself or find someone who can manage the issue for you. What the bride doesn't know will, very likely, not kill her. She probably won't even notice if something wasn't exactly how she imagined.

This day may not be about you, but you do have a very important job. Make the bride happy. Follow these 5 simple steps and you will be the best bridesmaid ever!

Dollar Store Wedding Finds

By On 4:49 PM

So I drug hubby out shopping with me a couple weeks ago and we had to make a stop at the Dollar Tree.

He. Was. Amazed.

He didn't realize that the Dollar Tree carried so many wedding planner staples! He asked me "Why didn't you shop here more often when we were planning our wedding?"

I did...

No, you aren't going to find everything you need for your wedding at the dollar store, but there are so many thrifty ways to save money for your wedding! Here are a few things to pick up at the dollar store next time you're out and about:

Glue Sticks:

You need glue sticks for your wedding. Whether you're a DIY bride or not, glue sticks are an essential.

Vases and Glasswear:

Get cylinder vases, bud vases, fishbowls, milk jars, even the occasional mason jar at the dollar store!

Flowers and Stems:

Ok, ok, now, I wouldn't hold out hope that every flower they have will look 100% real, but given enough digging you might find some flowers and stems that look very nice.

Marbles, stones, or gems:

They even offer different colors!

Tea lights:

Everyone wants tea lights for their wedding. And at Dollar Tree you can choose between real candles or battery powered.

Favors:

There are so many things to choose from to give as gifts to your guests! Candles, photo frames, candy. Have fun with this one!

Top 10 TV Sitcom Weddings

By On 10:22 AM

Everyone loves a good sitcom. Half an hour of laughter and drama, and characters that feel like friends. That's why when two of our favorite characters get married we love to see what comedy- and often trouble- will ensue. And usually I end up crying.

One rule, only one wedding per sitcom is allowed, so while there are other beautiful, hilarious, and meaningful weddings in the same show, but only the best one of each show!

10. Fran and Maxwell "The Nanny"

My very first favorite sitcom! It felt like these two were never gonna get married! You had to know that Fran Fine's wedding was going to be extravagant, and she didn't disappoint! I dreamed of having such ornate floral arrangements and bouquets at my wedding!

9. Karen and Lyle "Will & Grace"

Sure, their marriage only lasted a couple hours, but it sure was fun! A fabulous, but not over the top Las Vegas wedding with a rooftop nighttime reception. I specifically remember how gorgeous the view was! With a view like that, the reception decorates itself!

8. Howard and Bernadette "The Big Bang Theory"

Poor Bernadette didn't get the wedding she was hoping and planning for since their wedding had to be moved up for Howard's departure into space, but it was still a romantic ceremony on the rooftop surrounded by only their closest family and friends. And we gotta admit, capturing the wedding on Google Earth is one of the coolest things ever!

7. Jeannie and Tony "I Dream of Jeannie"

You'd think that someone who can blink anything she wants into existence would have the perfect wedding, and they did! Minus that little mishap about Jeannie not being able to be in any of her wedding photos...

6. Marshall and Lily "How I Met Your Mother"

The writers outdid themselves when they were thinking of ways to ruin Lily and Marshall's wedding... from the harpist going into labor, the veil being run over by a car, the flowers not being delivered, and Marshall shaving off part of his hair. But this wedding was still beautiful because, you know what, they have each other and they have great friends. And that's all that mattered.

5. Jim and Pam "The Office"

Secretly getting married at Niagara Falls right before your wedding is pretty much the most romantic thing ever. And even though it wasn't in the plan, the dancing down the aisle was pretty darn cool!

4. Jesse and Becky "Full House"

Everyone cried when Uncle Jesse sang "Forever" to Becky at their wedding. YOU KNOW YOU DID, DON'T LIE!

3. Mitch and Cam "Modern Family"

It takes a while to get there, since they had to change wedding venues more than a couple times... but! The wedding that eventually takes place is heartfelt and sweet. Not at all over done (as Cam would have had it) but perfect and classy in every way!

2. Cory and Topenga "Boy Meets World"

So technically it wasn't "their" wedding (It was a gift... and hard to explain... just watch the episode if you haven't seen it.). But this wedding was SIX YEARS in the making! We watched as they grew up together, and even when they weren't together (you know, that weird season when they broke up) you knew that this was what you were waiting for all along!

1. Phoebe and Mike "Friends"

There were plenty of "Friends" weddings to choose from, and there were a couple others that almost made the list! But, the most perfect wedding in my book is Phoebe's wedding to Mike. The snow, the lights, her gown, the music, oh! Everything was perfect! The only thing wrong with this wedding is the fact that I wasn't the one marrying Mike...

What do you think of this list? What sitcom weddings did I miss? Let me know in the comments!
