When the Forecast Calls for Rain

"Have a backup plan," they said. "Just in case," they said. Rain may be "good luck" on your wedding day, but it certainly doesn't feel that way when you're planning an outdoor ceremony or pictures. And while you may have a theoretical back up plan, it's hard to change all of your big plans at the last second. Here's how to make rain feel like less of a drag.

Don't Have a "Backup Plan"
Or, in other words, use good weather as your "Backup Plan." That sounds absolutely crazy, I know, but hear me out. If you have an indoor (or at least covered) ceremony that you absolutely love, it won't feel at all like settling if it's raining; and if the weather turns out to be great, it's easy to pull some chairs outside instead! Some ideas would be

  • In front of a large picture or stained glass window
  • Inside a covered, but open park pavilion
  • Decorate a wall in your reception space to be married in front of, after the ceremony have your planner move the chairs from the ceremony space to around the tables and move your head table in front of the wall. Alternatively, some reception spaces have an entirely different room that you could use for your ceremony.
  • In front of a fireplace - roaring or not!
  • On a set of stairs, either at the bottom or the top!

Sometimes you have to think a little bit out of the box, but I'm sure you can find an indoor reception that you will love just as much as an outdoor alternative!
