Wedding Flashback: 1980's

When Princess Diana and Prince Charles were married in 1981 no one could have imagined that it would start a wedding revolution! Not only was the style and theme emulated in almost every wedding to follow, but brides started sparing no expense to have their perfect princess day, starting an industry known as the "wedding market." Weddings were the biggest deal yet and lead the way to the modern wedding.

Everything in weddings were big! The bigger the better! Long veils, longer trains. Frills and lace were puffed up to be the biggest they would go. Puffy sleeves, fluffy ballgowns, huge statement bouquets. Oversized bows adorned every aspect of the decorating- including the bridesmaid dresses.

A brand-new must-have came about for the 80's bride: videography! Professional cinematographers would be hired to capture every moment of the big day so the bride and groom could remember their day in brand new ways!

Receptions were the biggest yet, too. Balloon arches were included to add a playful, eye-catching touch. Wedding cakes were typically six to eight tiers tall, and made even bigger by adding columns between the tiers for additional height. Live wedding bands were a must to keep the guests dancing all night long.
