We've reached the last decade of our Wedding Flashback series :( The early 2000's seems like such recent history, with many of the trends from these years still living on in today's weddings. But let's look and see what sets the early 2000's apart from the 90's and the now!
The 2000's gave us possibly the most important thing to hit the bridal market to date. Something that brides and non brides alike turn to for guidance, direction, inspiration, and often laughs:
This hot new show (which has inspired multiple spinoffs as well as a phrase used in every wedding boutique in America) showed us all the different styles, shapes, and sizes wedding dresses could come in, inspiring women to branch out and leading to more and more bridal gown designs.
A staple of the 2000's wedding gown was strapless! It began square cut right across the top but eventually the sweetheart neckline reigned supreme. Strapless gowns can compliment every style of dress, so while the A-line gown was the most popular, ballgowns, trumpet gowns, and even the occasional mermaid style could be found! Brides even started livening up their gowns by adding sashes and other decals.
By the 2000's brides started personalizing every aspect of their weddings, wanting their's to stand out from the crowd. Unity candles were replaced by sand ceremonies, cakes were replaced by cupcakes. Everything that could be personalized had the couple's names on them. Church ceremonies
were going out of style and instead were being held anywhere else! Parks, beaches, backyards, on docks on a lake, anywhere couples could go to make their wedding beautiful and unique.
