Diamonds may be forever, but what if the classic white rock isn't your style? "Anything can be an engagement ring. An engagement ring isn't about the specific stone or style, but the meaning in which it is given," says Fort Wayne Jared Galleria of Jewelry salesman David Wenndt.
I asked David what his favorite stone for an engagement ring was and his answers were surprising:
"I like Sapphire or Ruby for an engagement ring. They are the second hardest stone after diamond." (Did you know sapphire and ruby are just different colors of the same gem?) "Sapphire symbolizes truth and consistency, Ruby symbolizes desire."
My favorite gemstone is an emerald, I asked him about emeralds for engagement rings and he said "Some people like them for engagements because they are a good hard stone and symbolize faithfulness and unchanging love."
"What is a stone some people probably don't think about for an engagement ring?" Is the last question I ask him. "I've sold multiple morganite rings, people like them because they're pretty but different."
What does the classic white diamond symbolize? Purity, of course!
